Kayak Geocaching

| December 12, 2011 | 3 Comments

Ever been geocaching in a kayak or canoe? I honestly never really thought about it but I recently stumbled upon an article through Paddling.net that intrigued me. I mean it only makes sense doesn’t it? Geocachers are always trying to find ways to make it more challenging to hide caches, and with a kayak or canoe you’ll be able to expand your opportunities and reach. This article by Rachel Finney from The World. highlights the topic. While you are at it, check out this video. Both offer some insight into geocaching from a kayak. For those unfamiliar with geocaching, it’s basically an outdoor treasure hunting game. Players try to locate hidden containers, called geocaches, using GPS-enabled devices and then share their experiences with others. I have not done it since getting my kayak this summer, but I remember being in Austin last year at this time, there is a geocache you need to access by kayak or canoe on Ladybird Lake.

Been geocaching a while and love it so it seems natural to combine the two. The hunt for treasure really adds to the experience. Very nice caches in lake Tahoe! But difficult to get to if water levels rise or there is no beach.
