Employee Spotlight: Jeremy Arntz

| March 6, 2013 | 4 Comments

At ACK, we’re proud of our powerful website and keeping up to date with the latest technological trends and this month we wanted to focus on one of the guys in the midst of it all, Jeremy Arntz. His official title is Senior Web Applications Developer and a normal day for him is…well, pretty rare. He’s worked on some big projects like the launch of RackBoys.com, the redesign of ACK.com and plenty of stuff involving ACK’s iPad and mobile sites and can usually be found working to keep everything up to date and running smooth.

Jeremy joined ACK in September of 2011 because of his interest in spending time outdoors coupled with that of his development skills. He’s a man of many hobbies and paddling is his most recent passion, though he’s dabbled in astronomy, mountain biking and even some light robot building. He grew up in Michigan where he attended school at Lansing Community College and studied Theatre Tech. Eventually though, he found himself swept up in the dot-com boom and moved to Austin for his first programming job. These days, while he’s waiting for his brand new Tarpon 160 to arrive, Jeremy records the Die Robot Die podcast and updates his Paleo Paddler Facebook page.

When Jeremy is not purposefully giving you a creepy glare he’s one of the most friendly people at ACK that you’ll meet. He’s an enthusiastic guy about everything he does and great paddling partner to have out on the water. He plans on training and participating in the Colorado 100 (a popular canoe/kayak race here in Texas) later this year. Wish him luck!

His favorite aspect of the job? It’s the same reason he decided to join in the first place: working at a company where everyone is interested in the outdoors. At least he knows that here, he doesn’t come off as crazy when he tries to talk to everyone about kayaking! Well, most of the time anyway.

It may be a good idea to wear a USCG-approved PFD while on the water……

    • Joseph Dowdy says:

Hey Bob, thanks for reading! I know it is difficult to see under the safety vest but Jeremy ALWAYS wears his USCG-approved PFD when he’s on the water. If you look closely it is possible to make out under the vest. The vest was worn because the photo was taken during a swim race at which Jeremy was volunteering as a paddler to flag down any motorized vehicles that came close to the swimmers.

  2. Jeremy Arntz says:

While it doesn’t look like I am wearing a PFD, because of the reflective vest covering it, I promise you that I am wearing a one and I wear it every time I’m on the water.
